Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most common fact about new electrical connections that most people do not know?
You do not have to deal directly with a large district network operator such as UKPN. You can use a small local company to do the vast majority of the work saving you hassle, time and money
What is it like to arrange a new connection with a large district network operator
It starts with a phone call to their customer services helpline, essentially a call centre where you will speak to an administrator for the engineering team. Each time you call you will speak to a different person every time who will most likely not be familiar with the unique aspects of your project.
If I do go direct to a DNO will they do the work themselves?
No! They will sub contract the work out to companies like us who will do the work on the ground. They will only carry out a tiny part of the works at the point of the connection, this is called the Non-Contestable works, ie work that no other company can do.
How does the cost of the works compare to your costs?
The large operators need to add on a significant management fee on top of the cost of the sub contractors cost. Our teams of local groundworks and cable laying companies offer us better rates and we manage these companies on the ground saving you the hefty management fees charged by DNO’s.
Do you do the final connection in the road?
Yes we manage the DNO’s connection and we do this for you free of charge.
Ok. What exactly can you do to get connected?
Simply put, we firstly check that you are paying for what you need and not applying for a level of electricity that you don’t need. Then we scope out any ground works and the actual installation costs and quantify the materials needed. Then we look at the wider picture and advise you on what in your program would be the best time to do the work. Then we send you a clear and transparent quotation outlining when each cost would be due so you know exactly what you need to allow for and when. Once appointed we can get the works booked in. When the time comes we carry out the works, manage any traffic management and the DNO works and test and commission and hand over to the grid. At every point throughout the program we are here at the end of the phone, speak directly to an engineer and not a bot or a call handler, every time.
